News May 2008 Congratulations to the Texas Tech University Saxophone Studio for a great year! The TTU Saxophone Quartet (Matt Martinez Experience) was selected as a finalist in the 2008 Coleman Chamber Music Competition in Pasadena, CA, and as a semi-finalist in the Plowman Chamber Music Competition in Columbia, Missouri. Studio members performed at the United States Navy Band's International Saxophone Symposium in Washington, DC and at the North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conference in Columbia, SC. Saxophonist Roy Allen and I will present "Saxoday" - Sat, Sep 13 at Brookhaven College in Dallas. Saxophone master classes, clinics and performances - focusing on Texas All-Region / All-State performance skills. Pianist Gabriel Sanchez and I will perform Monday Sep 22 at TTU and Tuesday Sep 23 at ENMU in Portales, NM. The program will include the Sonata for Saxophone and Piano by William Albright as well as a transcription of the Sonata for Violin and Piano in A major by Cesar Franck. Saxophonist Chien-Kwan Lin from the Eastman School of Music will present a recital and masterclass this October at Texas Tech University. The 15th World Saxophone Congress will be held in Bangkok, Thailand July 8-12, 2009.
